The Hartford at Stafford Village Grand Opening.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – National Church Residences announces the opening of The Hartford at Stafford Village, a new $30 million independent living community with a mix of affordable and middle-income-serving housing for seniors age 55 and older. Located at 120 East Stafford Avenue, the community features 85, one- and two-bedroom apartment homes gracefully integrated into the Old Worthington neighborhood’s historic character with spacious greenspaces and the preservation of historic trees. Amenities include bistro dining, wellness center, theater, library, community room, organized activities and a parking garage.

As property manager at Stafford Village for nearly five decades, National Church Residences was the natural partner for replacement of a group of 50-year-old apartments on the community campus. Plans for the redevelopment that became The Hartford were shaped in collaboration with Worthington Presbyterian Church, the Worthington Community Relations Commission, Worthington City Council and the Mayor’s Office.

“Worthington residents told us that they were interested in creating great living options for older adults of all incomes, as well as protecting affordable units,” said President and CEO, Susan DiMickele of National Church Residences. “We are excited to celebrate our success in making that vision a reality – with The Hartford’s well-appointed independent living apartments for middle-income adults as well as preservation of 65 affordable units throughout Stafford Village.”

“Worthington is a vibrant community that began as a result of planning by its founders over 200 years ago,” noted Worthington Mayor Scott Holmes. “The opening of The Hartford continues that legacy of careful planning – ensuring that we thrive as a community as we welcome and serve people at every stage of life and offer them homes that fit their age and income.”

Funders for the community included S&T Bank and the County Hospital Commission of Franklin County (via Tax Exempt Health Care Bonds). The Hartford was designed by The Jones Studio and pH7 Architects. Elford, Inc. served as the general contractor. Interior design was provided by Lime Design.
