Crossing Pointe is an Innovative LIHTC Community Bringing 80 Affordable Independent Senior Apartments to the Christian City Campus. The community integrates senior housing, supportive services, and disability inclusion designed for independence and connection.
Union City, GA (December 4, 2025) – National Church Residences proudly announces the grand opening of Crossing Pointe, an 80-unit affordable independent senior apartment community located on the Christian City campus in South Fulton County. Crossing Pointe strengthens National Church Residences’ presence in the region as its fifth community on the Christian City campus and its 17th affordable senior property in metro Atlanta. The development continues a nearly three-decade collaboration between National Church Residences and Christian City – two mission-driven organizations founded in the 1960s, one dedicated to supporting children in foster care families and youth in crisis, and active senior living, the other committed to ensuring older adults can age with stability, dignity, and purpose.
The vision for Crossing Pointe began in 2021, when National Church Residences and Christian City executed an Option to Ground Lease the 4.48-acre parcel at Lester and Red Oak Road. That same year, National Church Residences acquired the four existing affordable senior communities on the campus: John Sparks Manor, Gene Miller Manor, Larry Moore Manor, and Garden Terrace, and completed full renovations within the first two years of ownership. Together, the partners envisioned a new modern senior community that would complete a long-imagined phase of campus renewal. The name “Crossing Pointe” was chosen because the site sits both literally and symbolically at a crossroads on the campus – adjacent to the Children’s Village, near Christian City’s most popular community destinations including the Graceland Thrift Store, and at the intersection of several amenities and service hubs. The community is designed to strengthen intergenerational connections between older adults and the youth who call Christian City home.
“Crossing Pointe represents what can happen when two organizations work together for the greater good of the people they serve,” shared Keith Horton, President & CEO of Christian City. “For decades, Christian City and National Church Residences have worked side by side to support children, families and older adults. This new community is the fulfillment of a vision to continue to bring generations together. We are grateful for this partnership and for the opportunity to see lives strengthened in this special corner of our campus.”
Financing the project required an innovative capital stack and collaboration. After construction cost escalations created a $2 million gap in 2022, the project received a major boost in September 2023 when it was selected by the HouseATL Funders’ Collective and awarded a historic $1 million cash-flow loan from the GoATL Fund through the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, one of the first GoATL investments made in partnership with faith-based partners. The Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) also played an important role, providing State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds (SLFRF) authorized by the American Rescue Plan Act as a $7.35 million construction-to-permanent loan in early 2024. Additional financing included federal and state Low-Income Housing tax credits from DCA, an $8,858,000 construction loan from Wells Fargo, and tax credit equity from National Equity Fund (NEF). Together, these investments demonstrate how tax credits, pandemic recovery funds, and impact capital can be layered to deliver affordable housing during a challenging economic climate.
Crossing Pointe offers 80 one-bedroom apartments for seniors 55+ and adults with disabilities, with units serving households at 50% and 60% AMI. Residents will have access to the amenities and services available across the Christian City campus, including transportation, recreational facilities, a community garden, a dog park, security patrol, and the long-standing HUD-funded service coordination services provided by National Church Residences. The development also deepens the partnership with Two Sparrows, Christian City’s program supporting neurodivergent adults through job training, life-skills development, and pathways to independent living. Up to 10% of units at Crossing Pointe will include a waitlist preference for Two Sparrows graduates, ensuring continued integration of supportive housing for residents with disabilities.
“Today marks the continued strength of the partnership between National Church Residences and Christian City, and our shared belief in a campus that welcomes every generation, every income level, and every ability.” Said Susan DiMickele, President and CEO of National Church Residences. “Affordable housing is the foundation of our mission because stable, safe homes drive better health and better lives. With Crossing Pointe, we move one step closer to our goal of serving 100,000 seniors by 2030 through housing, services, and integrated health solutions. We are committed to the Atlanta, especially with the city’s bipartisan momentum and visionary coalitions like HouseATL working to expand affordable housing.”
National Church Residences and Christian City invite press to attend the ribbon cutting on December 9 at 11:45 a.m. Media will have opportunities to capture photos and video of the new community, tour the building, and speak with organizational leaders about the financing, partnerships, and human-impact stories behind Crossing Pointe.
