COLUMBUS, Ohio — National Church Residences is pleased to recognize two longstanding board members elected to new leadership positions. Virginia “Ginny” Barney has been elected the new chair of the board of directors. Barney succeeds Greg Overmeyer, who has served in the role since 2022. Rob Maloney was chosen to serve as vice chair. Both began their two-year leadership terms on January 1, 2025, and will lead National Church Residences vision to advance better living for 100,000 older adults by 2030, wherever they call home.

“On behalf of National Church Residences, we’re pleased and excited to begin working alongside our new board leaders as we focus on the next chapter of our mission to expand and promote our initiatives to better serve older adults,” said National Church Residences’ President and CEO, Susan DiMickele.  “Both Ginny and Rob have faithfully served on our board for several years, providing valuable leadership, compassion and respect for our commitment to address the issues impacting the communities that we serve.”

Barney has more than 30 years of leadership experience in the private and public sectors. She is a senior collaborator for The Collective Genius, a research, marketing and business strategy firm in Columbus, Ohio. She formerly served as city manager for the City of Upper Arlington, Ohio, for 11 years. During that time, the city achieved and maintained a Triple-A bond rating, while Barney developed and implemented economic incentive programs and worked with private businesses to reinvest in the city. Additionally, her work to give aging seniors the ability to remain self-sufficient earned her an International City Managers Association Award for public/private partnerships for the fire division’s work with National Church Residences. She also served on the Upper Arlington City Council and as mayor for nine years, as well as clerk of the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas.

“I am honored to serve National Church Residences in this very important role,” said Barney, who has served on the board since March 2014. “I’m also looking forward to working with my board colleagues and the staff across the country to provide more opportunities for older adults to live in affordable housing, while also offering them quality health care and beneficial social experiences.”

Maloney served as vice president of Real Estate Investments for Nationwide, beginning in January 2002.  In this role Maloney had responsibility for Nationwide’s $15 billion real estate operations, including the internal commercial mortgage portfolio, as well as Nationwide’s third-party, securitized lending, CMBS and equity programs.  In addition, Maloney served as vice president of Nationwide Realty Investors, Nationwide’s real estate development affiliate, where he led the asset management and property management teams for its $2 billion real estate portfolio.

Maloney added, “It has been an honor to participate and contribute to the board of National Church Residences. I have really enjoyed working with the board and the highly talented staff and seeing the tremendous impact of our efforts. I truly appreciate this new opportunity to serve as vice chair as we continue our work to bring about positive changes for seniors.”
