The Collective Genius
Virginia Barney is a Senior Collaborator for The Collective Genius, a research, marketing and business strategy firm in Columbus, OH. She is also formerly the City Manager for the City of Upper Arlington (Ohio).
Barney joined the National Church Residences Board of Directors in March 2014 with more than 30 years of leadership experience in the private and public sectors. During her 11 years as City Manager, Barney achieved and maintained a Triple-A bond rating, developed and implemented economic incentive programs, and worked with private business to reinvest in the City. She also served a Clerk of the Court of Common Pleas, city council and as the Mayor of Upper Arlington for nine years.
Barney has chaired the Solid Waste Authority, the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission, the Franklin County Emergency Management and Homeland Security Commission, the Upper Arlington Rotary Club and the governing board of her church.
She is a founder of the Upper Arlington Leadership Program, a founding participant and board member of Leadership Ohio, a board member of ALIA Institute, an international leadership program, and a founder and board member of the Upper Arlington Community Foundation. Currently, Ginny serves as the board chair of Star House, a center serving homeless youth.
