National Church Residences Continues Growing its Georgia Portfolio with Expansion

12/24/2018 | Recent News

The Georgia Department of Community Affairs has granted a 9 percent tax credit award to National Church Residences to help fund the construction of a new senior affordable housing community in the City of Pembroke; located about 30 miles west of Savannah.

The proposed three-story structure will be built on 3.65 acres and will consist of 55 one-bedroom and 15 two-bedroom units available to seniors age 55 and older. Amenities will include a wellness center, library, large community space with a kitchen, a community garden, gazebo and an on-site laundry facility. A fulltime property manager and maintenance technician will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the campus. In addition, a service coordinator will work with residents to identify their needs and coordinate with appropriate service providers in the area.

“In order to assist residents in remaining independent and self-sufficient, we will be adding supportive services and design amenities that will provide a platform for residents to age in place,” said Matt Rule, senior vice president of development for National Church Residences.

Design features that incorporate this philosophy allow for each unit and common space to be accessible and adaptable to the needs of the residents, as well as interior furnished gathering areas, handrails in hallways, emergency pull-cords, and a wider turn radius in kitchens and bathrooms.

Construction is expected to begin in the fall of 2019 at 104 Ash Branch Road and will take about a year to complete. Architecture firm Foley Design in Atlanta will develop the plan for the campus and design the building. The proposed development is located within walking distance of pharmacies, convenience stores, banks, restaurants and other services in downtown Pembroke. Adjacent to the site is the Mikell Foxworth Recreational Center, which is open to the community.

When this project is complete, the addition of the Ash Branch property to National Church Residences’ portfolio will give the organization 11 communities and 1,435 units located in Georgia.
