National Church Residences will celebrate Portage Trail Village’s 50 years of providing affordable housing to the community of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, on Saturday, August 3, 2019. Come out and celebrate with residents and staff from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., with a short ceremony scheduled at noon. This event is FREE and open to the public.
Through five decades, Portage Trail Village has continued to evolve and set itself apart from other senior communities in the area by offering quality services on a safe and secure affordable housing campus. In addition, Portage Trail was one of the first to offer affordable assisted living in Summit County and is the only building funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development offering independent and assisted living in the same location in northeast Ohio.
The Portage Trail Village celebration, located at 45 Cathedral Lane, includes a health fair featuring educational opportunities and health screenings, several food trucks offering a wide variety of options from pizza to ice cream, a touch a truck opportunity for children of all ages to climb aboard and meet local firefighters and police officers, bounce houses for the kids and a mobile DJ will play music throughout the event. In addition, gift baskets will be available to purchase through an auction to help raise money for the campus.
The ceremony will include remarks by leaders from the home office of National Church Residences, Cuyahoga Falls Mayor Don Walters, as well as a representative from the office of U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown. Cuyahoga Falls city council members will be in attendance to show their support and tours of the building will be made available to the public following the celebration ceremony.
Portage Trail opened in 1969 and was owned by Rex Humbard’s Cathedral of Tomorrow church, which is next door. National Church Residences purchased the property in 1986 and it has undergone substantial renovations to convert six floors into assisted living apartments with the upper floors remaining independent living. The 14-story building has a total of 183 apartments.
