Matt Rule was promoted to Senior Vice President of Development at National Church Residences in March 2016 after previously serving as Vice President of Affordable Housing Development.  He supervises the organization’s acquisitions team, development finance team, originations team, construction team and closing attorneys.

Under Rule’s direction, his team has won over 20 tax credit awards and purchased over 2,500 senior units in the last four years.  His team frequently combines tax credit equity financing with FHA loan products and/or HUD operational subsidies.  Notably, his team has developed two of the first 223(f) Pilot Program/tax credit transactions in the country, the first condominium Assisted Living Conversion Program/tax credit transaction in the country and a variety of senior independent living/enhanced services models.

Prior to joining National Church Residences, Rule was a transactional attorney at Squire Sanders, LLP, where he served as legal counsel for a variety of low income housing tax credit developers, syndicators, direct investors and lenders.

Rule is a graduate of The Ohio State University’s Michael E. Moritz College of Law where he graduated with distinction as Summa Cum Laude, Order of the Coif.  He was also named one of six Affordable Housing Rising Stars/Young Leaders for 2015 by Affordable Housing Finance.

He has been a volunteer with Franklin County Children Services for the past 14 years and is active in the Vineyard Church in Columbus (Ohio).  He is married and has three very energetic children.
