After retiring from a distinguished and diverse career in law, investment banking and education, Donald Gardiner joined the National Church Residences Board of Directors in June 2011.
Gardiner retired in 1999 after spending seven years as the Managing Director for the Merchant Banking Group at Banc One Capital Markets, Inc. While at Banc One, he was responsible for corporate finance services and mezzanine investing activities. Prior to his career in banking, Gardiner spent 25 years as a Partner with the Columbus law firm of Squire, Sanders & Dempsey and its predecessor, Murphey, Young & Smith. He served on the firm’s Executive Committee. The firm was a corporate and business practice with an emphasis on financing and change of control transactions.
Gardiner’s career began in 1965 with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington D.C. as a Senior Branch Attorney in the Division of Corporate Finance.
He is a graduate of DePauw University and the Duke University Law School. Gardiner is a member of the American, Ohio State, and Columbus (Ohio) Bar Associations and a former adjunct professor at the Fisher School of Business and Moritz College of Law at The Ohio State University. He continues to serve as an independent consultant for merger and acquisition transactions. Also a successful author, Gardiner lectures as continuing legal education seminars and institutes.
He and his wife Karen reside in Columbus where he has served as the President of the Marble Cliff Crossing Association and Chairman of the First Community Village board.
