SunTrust Foundation and SunTrust Bank Help Residents Get on the “Right Track”

8/6/2018 | Recent News

The SunTrust Foundation and SunTrust Bank recently partnered with National Church Residences to provide a free employment training workshop called “Right Track” that paired 11 SunTrust Bank top executives with residents of The Commons at Imperial Hotel for one-on-one resume writing and mock interviewing. The Commons at Imperial Hotel serves its disabled and formerly homeless residents, specifically those coping with conditions such as severe and persistent mental illness, substance abuse or addiction disorders, serious medical conditions and/or physical disabilities.

“Transformation takes place when we spend time with people outside of our normal circles,” said Stacey Kyser, senior director, development and volunteer services at National Church Residences. “That transformation took place for our residents and SunTrust Bank volunteers who took part in the employment training workshop. We are incredibly grateful to have the SunTrust Foundation and SunTrust Bank as partners with this program and appreciate the importance they place on service and being involved in the lives of fellow community members.”

In 2017, the SunTrust Foundation awarded National Church Residences a grant to fund the “Make It Happen!” and “Right Track” programs at The Commons at Imperial Hotel. Through education, training, and coaching, the goal of the programs is to help residents obtain and maintain regular, paid employment. In addition to a paid training stipend, “Right Track”participants receive coaching, transportation assistance, and support from a professional employment coordinator to help them transition into the traditional workforce.

“Spending time with the residents of The Commons at Imperial Hotel was rewarding for all,” said Beau Cummins, co-chief operating officer at SunTrust Bank. “We’re a purpose-driven company dedicated to advancing financial confidence for our clients, businesses and communities, and we value our partnership with National Church Residences. As their residents seek employment, programs like this are critical to ensuring they are prepared for interviews and entering the workforce.”

The next job readiness workshop for residents is planned for October 2018.
