THE COMMONS AT LIVINGSTON WINS READERS' CHOICE AWARD FROM AFFORDABLE HOUSING FINANCE MAGAZINE

September 20, 2012

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Commons at Livingston, a supportive housing community for veterans developed by National Church Residences, has received the annual readers’ choice award for Best-Special Needs Project from Affordable Housing Finance magazine.

“I’m pleased that Affordable Housing Finance can showcase the nation’s top affordable housing developments through our annual Readers’ Choice Awards program. The magazine’s editors selected The Commons at Livingston as a finalist because it serves as an outstanding model for housing the nation’s veterans,” said Christine Serlin, Executive Editor of Hanley Wood Business Media, which publishes the magazine.

Serlin explained The Commons at Livingston was selected as the winner in the special-needs category by the subscribers of Affordable Housing Finance magazine and its e-newsletter.

The Commons at Livingston, located in Columbus, is the first community of its kind to be developed in Ohio. Managed by the National Church Residences, The Commons at Livingston is a 50-apartment unit for homeless and disabled veterans. National Church Residences built the unit on the city’s east side, just two miles from Chalmers P. Wylie VA Ambulatory Care Center.

The Commons supports the veterans with wellness programs and two full-time social workers on site. An employment resource center helps residents find gainful employment during their stay.

Tom Slemmer, President and CEO of National Church Residences said, “We are proud to be recognized by fellow leaders in the affordable housing industry through the Affordable Housing Finance Readers’ Choice Awards. The Commons at Livingston is a special project that has been a great success, thanks to our dedicated staff and volunteers. Because it has benefited the community, we plan to expand it in the future.”

Winners of the Affordable Housing Finance Readers’ Choice Awards will be recognized with a plaque at a luncheon at the Fairmont Millenium Park in Chicago on Nov. 16.
