Did You Know There is a Resident at Bristol Village Who Runs a Blog?
Keep reading to find out about the creativity going on at The Boomer Explorer
1. To start off, tell us a little bit about yourself. What inspired you to start a blog?
The Boomer Explorer Blog is a community… a place to ask questions about retirement, share information, discover your passions, research your retirement journey, as well as discovering the sights and sounds of our Bristol Village community.
Let me introduce myself. My name is Sherry Sapienza. I am Bristol Village’s Boomer Explorer and moved to this beautiful community in 2015.
In 2014, I became a Boomer entrepreneur, with a freelance copywriting company, outoftheboxcopy.com. My passion is writing and working with individuals to help discover, inform, involve, and inspire their new journeys.
We all felt that a blog would benefit the Bristol Village marketing plan by adding to their social media efforts already in place.
2. What sorts of topics do you talk about in The Boomer Explorer? Do you have a favorite thing to write about?
The Boomer Explorer specifically targets the 55-64 age demographic, but the topic focus engages the pre-retirement and retirement groups. We look at trends—Boomer trends in particular—to address the many needs, wants, journeys, and ideas relating to this group.
We want to effectively build a community that will encourage members to keep returning for information about retirement and share their experiences in return. Topics for posts focus on what is going on in the community. An example would be our information during October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We focused on many aspects of breast cancer risks in postmenopausal women, with a particular focus centering around the Bristol Village community.
Another example would be The Boomer Trek which takes you on day and weekend trips around Ohio, and starts at Bristol Village. There are so many exciting trips to take, festivals to see, and—one of my favorite things—new restaurants to experience. One of the questions people seem to ask when visiting Bristol Village is what is there to see around the Village to explore. This definitely gives you choices and ideas.
I love to write about the exciting things happening within the Bristol Village Community. Just walk out your door, turn a corner and you’ll walk through numerous, beautiful, parks. Right outside my door is Tranquility Park. While you walk around the park, you can’t miss the beautiful labyrinth located in the middle of the park. This made an interesting post last spring. Very unique to our Village community.
3. What advice do you have for anyone who wants to start their own blog?
If you are interested in starting a blog, you first need to write about something you are passionate about, whether personal or business. Anything is possible. Make sure you write every day in a journal, join blog challenges, and frequent different blogs and forums in your intended niche.
4. What are some of your favorite things about living in Waverly?
I love old towns, old architecture. When I was getting ready to choose the college I wanted to attend, I wanted to make sure it was in a small, quaint town. That described Lyndonville, Vermont with old New England architecture, mountains, and of course, a Congregational Church in the middle of the Village. This also describes Bristol Village, and best of all, it’s the people here that make the Village.
