We recently featured Ortygia Restaurant in our blog post “35 of Our Favorite Restaurants in the Bradenton Area,” and were lucky enough to have the owner and head chef, Gaetano Cannata, answer some questions for us so our readers can get to know him and the restaurant a little better!

Q: Tell us a little bit about the restaurant. What do you bring to Bradenton?

The restaurant features a unique culinary experience fusing the cuisines of France and Sicily. Along with this we strive to teach the unique history and culture of Sicily to all of our patrons. We accomplish this in the restaurant itself and also by leading culinary tours through Sicily.

Q: How did you get into cooking?

My father was a former chef and my mother was an incredible cook. I worked in restaurants on and off since I was 15.

Q: If you could only make one dish for the rest of your life, what would it be?

My Sicilian lemon tart as it brings sunshine into everyone's day once they experience it.

Q:Do you have any famous chefs or possibly family members who have inspired your dishes?

My mother and father, Chef Fernando Veas from Barcelona, and Chef Alfonso Iaccarino in Naples.

Q: Do you have any favorite restaurants of your own in Bradenton?

Arte Café
