According to timeanddate.com, DST, or Daylight Saving Time, was invented in order to help save energy and allow us to take advantage of daylight, first being put into place in 1908 in Thunder Bay, Canada.

Tackle Daylight Saving with These Tips

Make sure you’re prepared for the changeover by keeping these tips in mind!

1. Get to Bed Earlier

Since we are springing forward, it’s important that you still get ample sleep, so make an effort to try and go to bed a little before your usual time. It might be best to even skip your nap that day to help you fall asleep and prevent tossing and turning, and waking up groggy.

And while you’re skipping your nap, it’s also best to stay away from foods such as coffee, sodas, and other caffeinated and sugary drinks that could disrupt your sleep. Getting some exercise earlier in the day can also enhance your chances of a better night’s rest, too!

2. Make Sure Your Clocks Are Changed

Though many modern devices, such as iPhones, auto update the time for Daylight Saving, some don’t, so don’t forget to do a quick check around the house and elsewhere to make sure all of your clocks are changed. Microwaves, ovens, and car radios are a good place to start.

3. Drive a Little More Cautious the Days Following the Time Change

According to AgingCare.com, car crashes increase following the time change in March, likely due to people forgetting to change their clocks and running late. So be sure to remember to look twice before making turns, be patient on busy roads, and maintain the correct speed limit to help ease the traffic flow for those around you.

4. Enjoy the Sunlight!

The best part of Daylight Saving is of course having more sunlight, so open your blinds and curtains and take it in! And since we are gaining another hour of sunlight, be sure to take advantage of it fully by having a stroll, tending your garden, or, if it’s warm enough, watching the sunset at the beach.
